This is everything I’ve always wanted Reichenbach to be, but Martin Freeman takes it to another level.
It’s John Watson, between dignity and broken heart, between an almost military salute, and everything falling apart, between refusing to accept it, and slowly coming to terms with it nonetheless. It’s all the subtleties of a strong man with a soft heart, a kind soul who believed in Sherlock until the end, and still believes in him, because he knows, deep down, that he’s right.
It’s also John Watson, the wise loving sidekick, who had found his other half, and is alone again. But along the way, he found the greatest thing in his life, he found Sherlock, and he loved and was loved in return. The greatest thing you’ll ever learn, so they say… Two halves of a coin.
I don’t think I can express how much love, and admiration, and awe, I felt watching Martin Freeman in this episode. I’ve adored this man for years, and seeing him in the show is… extraordinary. I knew how fantastic he was, always had, but suddenly he’s allowed to be all of what he could be, and he soars, he inhabits John Watson with such an aura, and so much simplicity too, there is no words that can describe how talented this man is.
Thank you, so much. My heart will probably never recover from this episode. In the best way. Now get that second BAFTA, you ridiculously talent human being you.
SHERLOCK RETURNS
“A note? Sherlock, the last thing you said me was that you would be fine. Then you were dead. A note doesn’t make up for that.”
“I mourned for you, Sherlock. I gave your fucking eulogy. I buried you for christ’s sake. For three years, you had me believing that! Had me believing I lost my best friend. That I had lost you. And now you come back out of nowhere expecting me to be okay with it.”
all the emotions T__T
